Time waits for no man(2005)

by Lisa E. Harris

Time Waits for No Man is one of the first original songs that I wrote for myself to sing. The song evokes long distance travel and inner contemplation, which could be due to the fact that I wrote this song in my early twenties, post graduate school, at a time when I was developing a relationship with my path and journey. Time Waits for No Man, is a gospel truth, an adage, and a great soundscape for life and the moving image, or a passing Texas terrain. I have been singing this song for listeners for the past 10 years and recorded a vocal piano duet arrangement with Jason Moran in 2015 at Houston's Sugar Hill Studios.
I later made an accompanying video on location in Venice Italy to enhance the contemplative propensity of the meditation.
This song and video is a question about temporal existence. An action, in this case a question, and the space around the action.

Time Waits for No Man
by Lisa E. Harris

Time waits for no man
when your money's gone
and you live at home.
Cool things we pretend are on their way,
forget about yesterday.

So you never leave and you never stay
You're stuck in between every other day.
And you're searching for a familiar face
to chase all your sorrows away.

Ah, throw away your dreaming!
You'll never become.
I can't help believing that dreaming is dumb.

So you start to think Like everybody else
and you start to hate your own self.
And now you're searching for a new addiction
to chase all your sorrows away.

Ah, throw away your dreaming!
You'll never become.
I can't help believing that dreaming is dumb.

For every man has a choice to make:
when to dream and when to wake.
when to stir and when to shake,
and when to chase all your sorrows away.
